  • Present Photo Story Projects
  • Jane Eyre - Read chapter 21 for Tuesday.

 

March 3 - 7

  • Jane Eyre - Finish reading up through chapter 27
  • Handouts - "Characters and Their Major Effects" (Due Monday)

*TEST (Chapters 11-27) - Tuesday, March 11*

 Timed writing in class (Friday)

 

 

March 10 - 14

  • Review chapters 11-27
  • Test - Tuesday, March 10 (11 - 27)
  • Read chapters 28 & 29 for Wednesday, 30 & 31 for Thursday, 32 & 33 for Friday
  • Bring paragraphs 1 & 2 to class on Wednesday (please have them typed even though they are not the final drafts).
  • Update reading journals!

 

March 17 - 20

  • Finish reading Jane Eyre (we will read chapter 38 in class on Wednesday).
  • Thursday - Complete handouts "Your Words Reveal You" and "Study Guide for Chapters 28-38" in class. If you don't finish, this will be homework for spring break.

Homework for spring break:

1) Handouts

2) Jane Eyre essay - Write the third paragraph (Topic Sentence: The powerful events near the end of the book serve to test and showcase Jane's _______________.) Also, revise the three body paragraphs.

3) Update reading journal (to be turned in the day of the next test - date will be announced in class when we return).

 

March 31 - April 4

  • Discuss homework from break
  • Finish discussing Jane Eyre

Test (Chapters 28 - 38 plus timeline): Thursday, April 3

Reading Journals are also due 4/3

  • Friday: Introduce introductory and concluding paragraphs for the Jane Eyre essay

 

April 7 - April 11

  • Film - Jane Eyre
  • Jane Eyre Essay due Friday, April 11 (Turn in typed essay with all rought drafts including checklist. You must also submit a copy to turnitin.com)
  • Introduction to Their Eyes Were Watching God on Friday

 

April 14 - 18

  • Finish film Monday (Jane Eyre)
  • Introduction to Zora Neale Hurston and Their Eyes Were Watching God
  • Read chapters 1 & 2 (for Wednesday), chapters 3 & 4 (for Thursday), and chapter 5 for (Friday)

 

April 21 - 25

  • Monday - Discuss chapters 6 & 7
  • Tuesday - Chapter 8 and work on study questions in class (handout)
  • Wednesday - Chapter 9
  • Thursday - Chapter 10 (Finish discussion questions from handout)
  • Friday - Timed writing in class (one paragraph)

 

 

April 28 - May 1

  • Homework due Monday (Find three examples of figurative language from chapters 11 & 12)
  • Discuss chapters 11 & 12 (Monday and Tuesday)
  • Discuss chapter 13 (Wednesday) and review discussion questions (handout).
  • Discuss chapters 14 & 15 (Thursday) and finish discussion questions on handout.

*Make sure you respond to the questions on the handout that correspond to each day's discussion.

Homework for Monday: Read chapter 16 and work on both handouts (Comparing and Contrasting Logan, Joe, and Tea Cake and discussion questions for ch. 16)

 

May 5 - 9

  • Discuss chapter 16 (Monday)
  • Chapter 17 (Tuesday)
  • Chapter 18 (Wednesday) and turn in assigned discussion question
  • Chapter 19 (Thursday)
  • Chapter 20  (Friday)

*We will start the quilt project next week.

 

May 12 - 16

  • Introduce quilt project (groups will work together in class Thursday and Friday)

  • TEST (Their Eyes Were Watching God) Wednesday, May 14

*Those students who have been assigned a reading journal for Their Eyes Were Watching God must submit it to turnitin.com and turn in the hard copy to me by next Monday, May 19th.

 

May 19 - 23

  • Finish quilt project
  • Movie - Their Eyes Were Watching God
  • Prepare for final exam (timed writings in class)

*Bring final draft of narrative and your illustration to class on Tuesday. We will be assembling the panels in class.

Homework for Tuesday: Write an introductory paragraph (with a thesis statement) and three topic sentences for the following prompt:

Three figures play pivotal roles in Janie's development: her grandmother, Joes Starks, and Tea Cake. Discuss the way in which each influences Janie's development.
